Volunteer facilitators support to individuals who have lost a loved one to substance use is invaluable. Many families and friends continue to struggle with the burden of grief as they mourn the death of their loved one to substance use related harms. Creating a safe space for people to come together to share similar life experiences assists families in feeling less isolated during their grief journey. Bereavement support groups can provide the warm, caring and trusting environment necessary for families to share their stories of loss, ultimately contributing to their healing. Healing Hearts support groups instill hope and reassurance as members connect with others who are in various stages of their grief.
